The launch of a new fundraising appeal for a local charity Fight Against Blindness took place at the Anglia Ruskin University. Hosted by the charity’s Patron Sir Hugh Duberly KCVO CBE this appeal is seeking to raise £30,000 to develop a pioneering method of assessing visual function in infants and children.
Louise Allen, Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, gave a presentation to an invited audience, showing that clinical trials of a revolutionary but large and static prototype developed specifically for children at Addenbrooke’s has already shown its superior performance over currently available methods especially for children with cognitive disability.
Funds raised by the Children’s Sight-
The result will be an effective and accurate visual acuity and field loss test to measure children’s visual pathway, which is vital in giving early recognition of diseases such as retinal dystrophy and brain tumours to start therapies to prevent further sight loss.
